How to Improve the Exhaust Pipes on a Diecast Model – part one
Exhaust pipes can have a tremendous effect on the realistic look of a diecast model. Good exhausts will improve the look of even the cheapest models while a bad one will ruin even the most expensive model.
Happily there are several ways in which you can improve the exhaust pipes on your models. Some of the modifications are very simple and will take literally 10 seconds to complete. Others are a bit more complex.
First, let’s start with the simple ones. They usually work best when you have a decent starting point.
Some models for example have relatively well made exhausts which are cut but still solid. Like these on the regular 1:18 HotWheels Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
In order to get them to look like on this picture, you need to do only one very simple thing. Take a toothpick and dip it into a pot with matte black paint. Then smear the paint with the toothpick into each pipe. Wipe the excess paint with a cloth and voila.
Other models feature sealed pipes which don’t look good at all. In this case you will have to get a little bit more drastic. You will have to drill the holes and then drop some paint in them as described above.
